Setback

I’ve been struggling with fever and GI issues over the past week with frequent clinic visits for various testing (all negative!), but it got so bad to the point of having to go to the ER yesterday. I’ve been receiving a full infection work-up, started 2 iv antibiotics, and got a CT scan of my chest/belly which revealed significant inflammation in my colon. They consulted the gastroenterology team and are working closely with my oncology team. Thankful for the good care I'm receiving. The plan is to get a biopsy done through a colonoscopy. This will be only way to confirm what’s going on in there esp. since all other tests have come back negative. They are suspecting either a bacterial infection or GVHD since I’ve recently stopped my immunosuppressive meds (tacro). If it’s a bacterial infection, we’ll know better how to focus treatment with antibiotics. If GVHD, then we would restart steroids and tacro. Appreciate your continued prayers.  Also, please please pray for Ryan and his fa...

Wonder

This past month has been up and down with decreased energy cause of low hemoglobin as well as the return of some GVHD symptoms including rash and GI issues, but thankful nonetheless for continued progress all things considered.  Yesterday I got my PICC line taken out of my right arm! After a year of being unable to really use my arm, what a long-awaited joy it is to now be able to throw a football, do a push-up, scoop hard ice-cream, take a normal shower without plastic wrapped around my arm, and eventually swim in the ocean again!  💪🤗 In his book “Living in Bonus Time”, Alec Hill shared about the concept of  wonder . It’s been a humbling yet soul-enriching process to experience this recently. After a year of being on restrictions due to being immunocompromised (as we all can relate to in a sense cause of Covid), I hope I never take for granted again the wonder of things like holding a baby, giving a warm hug, or even a handshake. I can’t wait to see my extended family ...

Self-awareness

Happy new year! Meet the newest addition to our family... Mochi!  “The key predictor of success among leaders is  self-awareness .” (from a Cornell business school study of 72 high-performing CEOs) I’ve never been one to do or have much interest in personality tests. But, through this recent season of God resetting and redirecting my life, I thought it’d be helpful to see how I’m actually “hard-wired”... and to simply become more self-aware.  So I reached out to a few dear friends of mine, Jeremy and Hyelee, who have a consulting business where they help folks discover and better understand their natural abilities, and thus hopefully aid them in finding what type of vocations they might most enjoy or prosper in.  You can check out their website here https://www.qv-consulting.com/ I took the Highlands Ability Battery (HAB) assessment which is the gold standard for testing natural abilities (as opposed to the skills we may have learned in life.) After taking the test, ...
