God of All my Days
Suffering reminds us that our lives are meant to be a community project. - Paul Tripp
I'm not a social media type of guy... more old-school, living in the stone ages. :) But, I wanted to start a simple blog to share my journey with those around me... family, friends, loved ones who have shown amazing support and love which has so touched me and my family.
So, to begin, I wanted to share a text thread that really turned out to be a lifeline for me. It started out in the Bryn Mawr Hospital ER and these faithful friends spoke truth and encouragement into my heart, often at times when I was in desperate need. For this, I'll forever be grateful.

Hey guys, would appreciate your prayers. Came into ER late last night. Cardiac work up has come up negative but my white blood cell count is very high. They are concerned that it's leukemia. Still doing tests today.

Long night. Didn't sleep but a wink cause there was a fire in our building soon after midnight, so several floors had to be evacuated including ours. Looked like a disaster scene. Crazy but thankful that everyone esp. those in beds and wheelchairs all got to safe location in adjacent building. Word is we'll all hopefully be back in our rooms soon. And then hopefully can get some rest. Tests may be postponed cause priority will be to get everyone settled and stable. Nurses and staff here have done such an amazing job continuing to take care of patients through it all. So admirable.
Billy Kwak
Get some rest when you can. Still praying for you and the family
Michael Oh
Oh my what a mess! We'll pray for rest and for good timing on the transfer and mercy on the testing. Lord fill our dear brother with your peace. Let your peace rest in him and the family in mysterious ways. Gentle Healer heal. Use the meds. Use your Spirit.
Psalm 46
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress

What a mess with the fire, thankfully no one was injured. Ps. 46 is one of my favorites, and hopefully encouraging to you. Praying for healing, for faith, for strength and for the doctors, nurses and technicians, for wisdom in their care for you. You are not alone, God is with you. Hey guys, so appreciate and grateful for your prayers and support. Many folks have reached out and it means a lot. Please pray for faith and strength for the journey ahead. And kids are especially taking it hard and all processing it differently as you can imagine. No new updates but flow cytometry from previous hospital indicating it’s Acute B-cell leukemia. Waiting on repeat flow done here at HUP and checking “Philadelphia chromosome" mutation lab result to determine treatment course and duration, most likely by tomorrow. Bone marrow biopsy done today will take longer for results.

Thank you for your continued prayers and encouragement from the Word. The psalms have definitely been ministering to our hearts. So, we met with the team earlier and they shared the following: Diagnosis confirmed of B-cell ALL with Philadelphia chromosome mutation. Treatment plan is to stay inpatient for few weeks to receive pre-chemo medication to slow the growth of cancer cells, and then be discharged home to do chemo regimen as inpatient/outpatient. Pray that I’ll be able to tolerate this and God will use the medications to get rid of the leukemia cells. They also said that bone marrow transplant will most likely be indicated for this type of cancer after chemo treatment.
Michael Oh
Thanks Joe for keeping us updated and allowing us to walk with you through this journey. I hope there were some silver linings in this diagnosis. I'm sure it's one of those not as bad as it could have been but not what we wanted to hear type situations. We know how to pray better and we'll update those who gather to pray at our house tomorrow morning from 10-12. Love you brother.
Bill Smith
Hey brother, thank you for reaching out. Very glad the psalms and prayers have been helpful and glad to hear you have a diagnosis and treatment plan. Continuing to pray that the Lord’s presence will be very tangible to you and your family during this time and the coming weeks. Love you much.

Good morning Joe & family,
Reading Spurgeon this morning, both Trish & I thought this might encourage you.
December 22 Morning I will strengthen thee.—Isaiah 41: 10
God has a strong reserve with which to discharge this engagement, for He is able to do all things. Believer, until you can drain dry the ocean of omnipotence, until you can break into pieces the towering mountains of almighty strength, you never need to fear. Do not think that the strength of man will ever be able to overcome the power of God. While the earth’s huge pillars stand, you have enough reason to abide firm in your faith. The same God who directs the earth in its orbit, who feeds the burning furnace of the sun, and trims the lamps of heaven has promised to supply you with daily strength. While He is able to uphold the universe, do not think that He will prove unable to fulfill His own promises. Remember what He did in the days of old, in the former generations. Remember how He spoke, and it was done; how He commanded, and it stood fast. Will He who created the world grow weary? He hangs the world on nothing; will He who does this be unable to support His children? Will He be unfaithful to His word for lack of power? Who is it that restrains the tempest? Does He not ride on the wings of the wind, make the clouds His chariots, and hold the ocean in the hollow of His hand? How can He fail you? When He has put such a faithful promise as this on record, will you for a moment indulge the thought that He has outpromised Himself and gone beyond His power to fulfill? Ah, no! You can doubt no longer. You who are my God and my strength, I can believe that this promise will be fulfilled, for the boundless reservoir of Your grace can never be exhausted, and the overflowing storehouse of Your strength can never be emptied by Your friends or pilfered by Your enemies. Now let the feeble all be strong, And make Jehovah’s arm their song.
Joe Hyun
Thanks rick and Trish for the reminder of who our God is. What a welcome encouragement this sabbath morning, to rest in His power and sustaining grace.

Good morning, hope you all had a great weekend. More encouraging news received just now. My white blood cell count has come down even more (8!) which is actually within "normal" range. So my body is continuing to respond well to the medications. They said levels might continue to even dip lower in the coming week through this targeted therapy, including healthy red blood cells and platelets too but they will supplement those as needed. Thank you for your continued prayers. Have a great day! Love you all.

Hi guys, could you please lift up in prayer. I've had headache since spinal tap yesterday. Side effect they think and just takes time to resolve. So not been able to walk much past few days and in bed mostly. Good thing is they found no leukemia cells in my CSF! Praise God. Plan will be to do repeat spinal taps every week so hopefully won't have these headaches all the time. Doc said plan is still for discharge home Monday! 🙏

So, Neutrophil count is trending up slowly but steadily (to 270 today) but not high enough to go home (benchmark goal of 500). Looks like Saturday's level of 480 might have been an abnormally high read for some reason. So anyway, will take it day by day. May be spending New Years here. Still dealing with headache and nausea from Friday's spinal tap, but hanging in there. Doc said caffeine actually helps so they gave me a pill for that and Chloe's been my barista concocting some yummy espresso drinks for me!☕
Bill Smith
Hey brother. Sorry to hear that you'll be there yet for longer; will continue to pray for your level to increase. Glad you have some relief for headaches and that you've got your own personal barista! Much love to the Hyun family.

But this is temporary, between a wonderful God, loving family and many others who are holding you up in prayer, I'm sure that His healing power and love and love will prevail. Keep the faith, rely on His strength and know that He wants the best for you.

Joe I'm resting in this good reminder today and praying this for you all as well.
He Knows
I know not what awaits me,
God kindly veils mine eyes,
And o’er each step of my onward way
He makes new scenes to rise;
And every joy He sends me, comes
A sweet and glad surprise.
Where He may lead me I’ll follow,
My trust in Him repose,
And every hour in perfect peace
I’ll sing, He knows, He knows;
And every hour in perfect peace
I’ll sing, He knows, He knows.
One step I see before me,
’Tis all I need to see,
The light of Heav’n more brightly shines,
When earth’s illusions flee;
And sweetly through the silence, came
His loving “Follow Me.”
Oh, blissful lack of wisdom,
’Tis blessed not to know;
He holds me with His own right hand,
And will not let me go,
And lulls my troubled soul to rest
In Him Who loves me so.
So on I go not knowing,
I would not if I might;
I’d rather walk in the dark with God
Than go alone in the light;
I’d rather walk in faith with Him
Than go alone by sight.
